ASSEMBLY
The Assembly is Student Government's representative body, chaired by the Executive Slate. It has thirty-four members formed from the two Councils, College and Graduate Council. The Assembly meets three times a quarter, usually on 3rd, 6th, and 9th Week. Please check the Student Government Calendar for more information on times and location.
From the By-Laws:
The Purpose of the Assembly shall be to legislate for the betterment of the student body of the University of Chicago and bring the concerns of individual constituencies to the attention of the entire Assembly.
The Assembly is your representative body and every member of the Student Association has a right to address it. It is hear to address your concerns and needs. Please do not hesitate to attend a meeting or contact yourRepresentative for help. Find your representative by clicking on People.
College Council
The Graduate Council is composed of seventeen voting members made up of representatives from each Graduate division at the University. These seventeen members represent the Graduate Divisions in theAssembly. The selection of representatives is determined by the division. Graduate Council also allocates money specifically for Graduate events on and off campus. The Graduate Council meets biweek, see the SG Calendar or the Council's web page for details. Committees
The Assembly has several types of Committees, some which are only Assembly Member elected by the Assembly, others that can be composed of anyone from the Student Association that are elected by the Assembly. Here are some of the better known committees and their purposes:
- Student Government Finance Committee (SGFC) - This committee meets weekly and distributes the 40% of the General Student Activity Fund during the year to RSOs who apply through their RSO Ad visors. Three Undergraduate Assembly Members and Three Graduate Assembly Members are elected to the Committee by the Assembly. The Vice President of Administration is the Executive Slate Advisor for this Committee.
- Annual Allocations (AnnAl) - This committee meets in the Spring and allocates 60% of the General Student Activity Fund to RSOs for the following year's programming. The Committee is composed of eight members of the Student Association elected by the Assembly and the SGFC Chair, who acts as a non-voting Chair. The Vice President of Administration is the Executive Slate Advisor for this Committee
- Program Coordinating Council (PCC) - This committee distributes funding among the six PCC Groups: The Major Activities Board (MAB), Doc Films, Fire Escape, University Theater (UT), WHPK, and the Center On University Programming (COUP). Three members of the Assembly are elected to serve on this committee by the Assembly. The Committee is also composed of representatives from the six PCC Groups. Funds are distributed for the following year in the spring. The Vice President of Student Affairs is the Executive Slate Advisor for this Committee
- Committee On Recognized Student Organizations (CORSO) - This committee is the adviser to Office of the Reynolds Club & Student Activities (ORCSA). The committee also approves all new RSOs. It is composed of three Assembly Members elected by the Assembly and five members of the Student Association chosen by the Executive slate.
- Elections and Rules Committee (E&R) - The Elections and Rules Committee (E&R) - The Elections and Rules committees oversees all elections at the University and works to make sure Student Government properly adheres to the Rules set forth in its By-Laws and Constitution. The committee is composed of seven members of the Student Association elected by the Assembly.

The Assembly's Powers Under the Constitution
According to the Student Government Constitution and By-Laws, the Assembly has the following responsibilities and powers:
- to legislate on any topic within the purview of the Student Association of the University; to elect members to a Finance Committee to grant funding to Recognized Student Organizations, and to elect members to other standing committees;
- to spend funds under the Assembly's control;
- to approve or overturn Presidential appointments, in accordance with the By-Laws;
- to establish ad hoc committees;
- to submit referenda to the Student Association in accordance with Article VIII of this Constitution;
- to establish special committees to hear and resolve matters arising from the relationship involving any of the following: Students, Recognized Student Organizations, and the Student Government;
- to refuse the recognition, privileges, or funding of any Recognized Student Organization.
The above powers of the Assembly shall not be construed as a limitation or specific enumeration of the powers of the Assembly.
