Just because the Moose Party dominated the debate does not mean that you need to let them dominate the highlights reel too.

John Q. is right, this video doesn’t help too much beyond providing a general sense of the Moose’s boorishness.
Unfortunately I’m not sure how many good shots they got of the other candidates due to Moose and DU’s boorishness.

I enjoyed Toussaint’s 5 minute monologue the most! Extremely moving.

I’m glad to see that the fine readers of the Maroon know what boorishness means.

It seems important to point out that not all the heckling was done by the Moose Party. There was an entirely separate group of drunk guys there to support/scream “yep” at the YEP slate.

From Google:
Boorish - ill-mannered and coarse and contemptible in behavior or appearance; “was boorish and insensitive”; “the loutish manners of a bully”;
It didn’t seem like YEP brought their own group , I thought they were just the Moose brigade’s second choice. Isn’t the VP-A from YEP a member or pledge of DU? It was really big of Yeonjean to cede his time to Toussaint when he got cut off during the debate.

Well, the fact is that virtually no one would attend the debates if not for the Moose Party, so SG and the slates need the Moose Party to get coverage and create some sort of conflict that the pathetic excuse for a newspaper that the Maroon is can talk about. Otherwise you just have a bunch of hacks up there talking about how “transparent” and “accountable” they are, when really it’s just a masturbation session for them and their low self-esteem.

I feel bad for Holly. This is an unfair representation of her.
Comment by Alfred Kazin — April 25, 2008 @ 6:19 pm
would there be a beer canal on the midway if it weren’t for the moose party? NO. would the shoreland have been transformed into a giant keg? NO. would there be a campus-wide crackdown on vampires? DECIDEDLY NOT.
MOOSE ‘08. ATTEND THE VICTORY PARTY 5/2/08 AT 5714 S. WOODLAWN.

If the point of the Moose Party is to promote a party, and they themselves are proud that they were 70% of the people at the debate, then one assumes that the 30% of the people who were at the debate who were not DU members were the target invitees.
Now, out of that 30%, about 40% were candidates themselves.
This leaves only a few people for the moose party to actually convince to come to their party, and a whole bunch of moose members.
In this sense, @s, the only difference between the moose party being there or not being there is that the masturbation involves DU members and alcohol, rather than SG candidates and resume padding.
no?

In fact, Zhuangzi, no. Truly an astute comment from you.

For people who think SG is masturbatory and resume padding, you certainly spend a lot of time reading our blog…
Just saying.
@ Alfred - I completely agree. I think Louis’s campaign was really inappropriate, even though she was a good sport about it. The comments at the debate by the Pro-Moose camp were over the line.
@ Pat - I hope the party went well, and the blog helped spread the word.

Scott Duncombe: “I, I was pretty intimate with one, one member of the Moose–uh, uh, I think Delta Upsilon.”
You wish, Scott. You wish.

I’ve clearly been missing out all these years.

I guess the most disappointing thing is how completely unfunny the Moose Party folks are. Being obnoxious for the express purpose of pissing people off doesn’t count as actual “humor.” It’s just antisocial, and mean too.
It doesn’t matter if 90% of the debate is resume-padding and masturbation, there are people (Toussaint, for one) who are bringing up real issues, and getting drowned out by a bunch of clowns.
