Committees
The best way for you to get involved in Student Government is to become a
member in one or more of the numerous Student Government and University
committees on campus. We've broken them down by function, so if you're
interested in advocating for, serving, or supporting students, check out the committee lists bellow and contact the
Executive Committee about getting involved.
This is the best way to effect change on campus as these committees give you a
chance to interact directly with decision makers at all levels, be it with
Student Organizations, Student Government Officers, or University
Administrators.

These committees specialize in giving advice to University Administrators on University Policy and Practices. If you're interested in interacting with administrators about policy issues, these committees are for you.

Campus Dining Advising Board (CDAB) -
Provides oversight of the Campus Dining Services including Hutch Commons,
C-Shop, Bartlett Dining Hall, Pierce Dining Hall, BJ Dining Hall, Maroon
Market, and Capone's. They provide feedback to the management of the
dining venues, consider proposals for changes in services, assist in
planning for future changes (brands, prices, selections), and offer feedback
about policies and procedures. The Executive Slate appoints three
student representatives and they meets once a quarter along with three
Inter-House Council Representatives.
- Committee on Crime Prevention and Security on Campus and in the Neighborhood - Advises the President of the University on a wide range of matters that may impact the safety of members of the University community or their property. Any student can attend and the committee meets once a quarter.
- Independent Review Committee for the University Police Department - Evaluates complaints brought against University Police and makes recommendations to the President regarding the department's policies and procedures. The Executive Slate appoints student representatives and the committee meets when necessary.

Library Student Resource Group
(LSRG)- Gives student feedback on collections, access, services at
Regenstein, Harper, and Crerar. Assists in planning for future change
by considering proposals for changes in services. Makes specific
recommendations that would improve the Library. Any student can join
the committee and it meets twice a quarter.
- New Residence Hall and Dining Student Advisory Committee (NRHDSAC) - Advises the Office of Undergraduate Housing on the development of the new dorm south of the Midway. Any student can join the committee and it meets twice a quarter.
- NSIT Student Advisory Group (NSAG) - Advises NSIT on computer networking, USITEs, printing, webmail, and phone service on campus. Any student can attend and the committee meets twice a quarter.
- Transportation Student Advisory Board (TSAB) - Provides a channel for students to continually evaluate campus transportation systems. The Executive Slate appoints three student representatives and they meet twice a quarter along with three Inter-House Council Representatives.
- Sustainability Council - Promotes greater environmental awareness throughout the University; evaluates opportunities for improving sustainability in new and existing buildings; proposes strategies to University departments for improving sustainability; assesses institutional progress toward increasing sustainability on campus; examines and discusses sustainability principles for the University. The Executive Slate appoints one member to this committee and it meets twice a quarter.
- Student Advisory Committee on the Neighborhood - Builds student knowledge of the efforts of the Office of Community Affairs (OCA) and serves as a liaison for questions and concerns regarding its work; to contribute information and insight to the implementation process of current community affairs strategies and issue areas; and to provide recommendations for future OCA efforts. Any student can attend and the committee meets once a quarter.
- Student Counseling and Resource Service (SCRS) Student Advisory Board - Provides input and feedback to the SCRS director, and to assist with outreach, awareness, and peer education. Any student can attend and the committee meets once a quarter.
- Student Health Advisory Committee - Advises the administrators and Medical Director of the Student Care Center on the medical needs of students and how the SCC is able to effectively render services for the student community. Any student can attend and the committee meets once a quarter.

Student Health Insurance Review Committee
(SHIRC) - Advises the administration on the health insurance needs of
students at the University. The committee, comprised of students,
administrators, Deans of Students and physicians, tries to balance the needs
of students for high-quality comprehensive health care with financial
constraints. Any student can join and the committee meets twice a
month.

Get Involved!
These committees specialize in providing necessary services to students on campus. If you're interested in working with students to make campus a better place, these committees are for you.

Campus Services Committee - Addresses concerns pertaining to
transportation, security, dining, on campus banking, and academics at the
University. Works closely with the advocacy committees CDAB, TSAB,
NRHDSAC, Library Services, and NSAG. Also hosts representatives from
the Bookstore and from the On-Campus Banking facilities once a quarter.
Campus Services also undertakes new projects to better serve
students, such as the Airport Shuttle. The committee is open to all
students and meets weekly.

Student Life Committee - Works to improve the lives of students by
focusing on student including minority and activist issues, health insurance
concerns, and community relations. Also actively works to improve
student lives by distributing free food and collecting student surveys to
asses the state of student life on campus.

The Elections and Rules Committee (E&R) - The Elections and Rules
committees oversees all elections at the University and works to make sure
Student Government properly adheres to the Rules set forth in its By-Laws
and Constitution. The committee is composed of seven members of the Student
Association elected by the Assembly. The committee meets once a
quarter in the fall and winter and once a week in the spring.

Get Involved!
Support
These committees work to support student organizations on campus through funding
and other activities. If you're interested in student organizations on
campus and want to make it easier for them to put on great events, these
committees are for you.
- Student Government Finance Committee (SGFC) - This committee meets weekly and distributes the 40% of the General Student Activity Fund during the year to RSOs who apply through their RSO Ad visors. Three Undergraduate Assembly Members and Three Graduate Assembly Members are elected to the Committee by the Assembly. The Vice President of Administration is the Executive Slate Advisor for this committee.
- Annual Allocations (AnnAl) - This committee meets in the Spring and allocates 60% of the General Student Activity Fund to RSOs for the following year's programming. The Committee is composed of eight members of the Student Association elected by the Assembly and the SGFC Chair, who acts as a non-voting Chair. The Vice President of Administration is the Executive Slate Advisor for this committee.

Program Coordinating Council (PCC) -
This committee distributes funding among the six PCC Groups: The
Major Activities Board (MAB), Doc Films, Fire Escape, University Theater
(UT), WHPK, and the Center On University Programming (COUP). Three members
of the Assembly are elected to serve on this committee by the Assembly. The
Committee is also composed of representatives from the six PCC Groups. Funds
are distributed for the following year in the spring. The Vice President of
Student Affairs is the Executive Slate Advisor for this Committee.
This committee meets on a weekly or biweekly basis.
- Committee On Recognized Student Organizations (CORSO) - This committee is the adviser to Office of the Reynolds Club & Student Activities (ORCSA). The committee also approves all new RSOs. It is composed of three Assembly Members elected by the Assembly and five members of the Student Association chosen by the Executive slate.
- The Coalition of Academic Teams (CAT) - Encourages, promotes, and facilitates a broad mix of student-run competitive academic teams that will enrich the campus community and represent the University at competitions throughout the country. Funds primarily CAT members: College Bowl, Policy Debate Team, Mock Trial, Model UN, Debate Society, and the Chess Team. The Executive Slate appoints some members of this committee and is also composed of representatives from the various CAT teams.
- Community Service Fund (CSF) - Responsible for allocating a special section of the Student Activities Fees to RSOs engaged specifically in community service. The Executive Slate appoints some members of this committee and it is also composed of representatives from the various Community Service Oriented RSOs. The committee meets once a Quarter.
- Sports Clubs Allocations Committee - Recommends funds from the Student Activity Fee to Sports Clubs for activities promoting artistic, social, intellectual, educational, cultural or informational values. The Executive Slate appoints some members of this committee and it is also composed of representatives from the various sports teams. The committee meets once a Month.
- Student Fine Arts Fund of the University Arts Council (SFAF) - Funds arts-related projects originating from students that fall outside of the kinds of projects normally funded by RSOs or departments. SFAF encourages the development of arts projects that are interdisciplinary by awarding grants of up to $1500. The committee meets once a quarter.

Other
These committees have a variety of other important functions on campus, such as
helping to select award recipients and deal with discipline on campus.
- All-University Disciplinary Committee - Conducts hearings on charges of violation by students of statutory provisions and Council legislation prohibiting disruptive acts. The Executive Slate appoints several members and the committee meets as necessary.
- Richman Award Committee - Reviews nominations for the Richman faculty award. The committee is open to all students and meets three times in Spring Quarter.
- Student Ombudsperson Selection Committee - Interviews the finalist candidate(s) for ombudsperson and associate ombudsperson and makes a committee recommendation to the President, who hires the two students for these positions. Historically, the Committee's recommendation has prevailed. The committee is open to any interested students and meets three times in spring quarter.

Vice President/Dean of Students Staff Awards
Committee - Reviews nominations for the VPDOS Staff award. The
committee is open to any interested students and meets three times a quarter
in spring quarter.
