The University of Chicago

Chair of the Committee on Student Employment (CSE)

We are seeking a Chair for the Committee on Student Employment (CSE) for the 2016-2017 academic year. As a new committee, CSE will establish itself as the primary channel for student concerns regarding employment and efforts to improve this aspect of student life.

Among the areas the Committee will explore are international student access to job opportunities, funding sources (i.e. wages, Metcalfs) and how they relate to cost of living, and the working conditions of graduate student workers. The Committee will collect and synthesize student feedback, develop relationships with the Office of Student Employment and other relevant administrators, research employment opportunities and conditions at other colleges and universities, and publish reports on their findings. They will work with the Executive Slate and the College and Graduate Councils and collaborate with administrators to improve student employment at UChicago.

The Chair will be responsible for guiding the work of the Committee on Student Employment and shaping its inaugural year. This will require drive and self-motivation. An attention to detail is necessary, in addition to a deep interest in working on employment issues on campus for both undergraduate and graduate students. The expected workload is five to ten hours per week.

To apply, prepare responses to the following two questions and submit them, along with a resume, by Sunday, July 3rd at 11:59 PM. Applications should be emailed to uofc.sg@gmail.com with the subject "CSE Chair application."
