Chair of the Committee on Campus Sustainability (CCS)

We are seeking a Chair for the Committee on Campus Sustainability (CCS) for the 2016-2017 academic year. In its second year of existence, CCS will channel student efforts to improve campus sustainability at UChicago.

Among the areas the Committee will explore are improvement of recycling and composting services, development of energy reduction programs, and fostering a connected green community on campus. The Committee will collect and synthesize student feedback, develop relationships with the Office of Sustainability and other relevant administrators, research sustainability measures at other colleges and universities, and publish reports on their findings. They will work with the Executive Slate and the College and Graduate Councils and collaborate with administrators to improve sustainability at UChicago.

The Chair will be responsible for guiding the work of the Committee on Campus Sustainability. This will require drive and self-motivation. An attention to detail is necessary, in addition to an deep interest in working on sustainability issues on campus with students, faculty, and staff. Prior involvement with sustainability or environmental issues is preferred but not required. Relationships with several green groups on campus would also be beneficial. The expected workload is five to ten hours per week.
